The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a new initiative designed to make mobile phone usage easier and more accessible for overseas Pakistanis and international tourists visiting the country. Under this updated policy, individuals who are temporarily in Pakistan—whether they are foreign nationals or expatriate Pakistanis—can now register one mobile device free of cost. This device will remain functional on local mobile networks for a period of 120 days per visit.
The initiative is a significant step towards enhancing convenience for travelers, many of whom previously faced challenges related to device registration and network access. By allowing free registration for a single device, the PTA aims to eliminate unnecessary hassle and expenses for short-term visitors, while also ensuring compliance with local telecommunication regulations.
Visitors can avail of this facility by accessing the PTA’s online Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) portal and applying for temporary registration. Once registered, the device will be allowed to operate on Pakistani networks without restriction for the entire duration of the 120-day window.
This policy is applicable for every individual during each of their visits to Pakistan, meaning returning visitors can benefit from the facility multiple times, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
