China Tests Ultra-Fast Satellite Internet, Beating Starlink by 5 Times

    China New Satellite Internet

Chinese researchers have made a major breakthrough in satellite internet technology by achieving a data transmission speed of 1Gbps—five times faster than what is currently offered by most satellite internet services. This achievement tackles one of the biggest challenges in space communication: signal disruption caused by the Earth’s atmosphere.

The team, led by scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Peking University, combined two advanced technologies—Adaptive Optics (AO) and Mode Diversity Reception (MDR)—to create a more stable and high-speed satellite connection. Their system was able to deliver faster data with fewer errors, improving accuracy by around 20% compared to older methods.

Unlike many current satellites that orbit closer to Earth, the Chinese satellite operated from a much higher altitude—over 22,000 miles above the planet. Despite this great distance, researchers maintained a strong, high-speed connection using a 5.9-foot telescope and a low-powered laser, showing that the system works efficiently even from far away.

This innovation could change the way we access internet, especially in remote areas where regular broadband is not available. It also holds promise for space communication and satellite navigation. Although the technology is still in the testing phase, it shows strong potential to become a powerful alternative to current satellite internet services in the future.
