India achieved a significant milestone in space exploration on Thursday, becoming the fourth country to successfully conduct an unmanned docking in space, following the United States, Russia, and China.
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) announced the success of its Space Docking Experiment (SpaDex) on X, calling it a “historic moment.” The mission involved two small satellites, named Target and Chaser, each weighing approximately 220 kilograms. These satellites were launched into low-earth orbit on December 30 aboard an Indian-made PSLV rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Andhra Pradesh.
On January 16, the two satellites completed a rendezvous and successfully docked, showcasing a critical technology for future space missions. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated ISRO scientists, emphasizing the achievement as a key step in India’s expanding space ambitions.
